Rosatom has begun commissioning activities at unit 1 of the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Turkiye. A delegation of Rosatom officials, led by Director General Alexey Likhachev, paid a working visit to the construction site to assess progress of the work. They visited the nuclear and turbine island facilities of unit 1, as well as the onshore hydraulic structures of the NPP. Likhachev held a working meeting with the General Director of project company Akkuyu Nukleer, Anastasia Zoteeva, and other project managers, for detailed discussions.

The first unit at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey is now entering the commissioning stage, with the aim of it supplying Turkey's energy system in 2025, Rosatom says.

Russia’s annual International Forum on Nuclear Energy, Atomexpo, which was recently held over two days in Sochi on the Black Sea coast set a record for the number of participating countries. Atomexpo-2024 organised by Rosatom, was held at the Sirius science & arts park in Sochi. The Sirius Federal Territory was established in 2020 has a special status and management system with an experimental legal regime. The forum attracted more than 4,500 people from 75 countries.

Hundreds of workers launched a protest at the construction site of the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Turkiye demanding payment of overdue wages, Sol Haber reported. In addition to the delayed payments, the workers are demanding improvements in working conditions and enhanced safety measures at the construction site due to the challenging work environment.

An official International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certificate handover ceremony has been held at the Akkuyu NPP construction site in Turkiye confirming compliance of Akkuyu Nukleer’s management system with ISO standards. Akkuyu Nukleer (part of Rosatom is the project company implementing construction of the Akkuyu NPP at Mersin on the Mediterranean coast. ISO certificates are a requirement of both the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Türkiye and Rosatom.

JSC Ruspolimet in Vyksa (Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region) has shipped the lead transport and packaging container TUK-137T.A1 manufactured for the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Turkiye. The equipment was manufactured by Ruspolimet for Tekhsnabexport (Tenex), Rosatom’s sales and trading division.

A “clean area” has been prepared in the reactor compartment of unit 1 of the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Turkiye. This is a prepared workspace for the control assembly of the reactor install the equipment needed to load the simulated reactor core before cold and hot testing begins. Specialists of project company Akkuyu Nukleer set up the area in accordance with the requirements of the technical regulations. Construction materials have been removed from the working area; multiple wet cleaning is conducted on a daily basis; and limited access of all but essential personnel has been arranged. The reactor pressure vessel for unit 1 was delivered to the site in November 2023.

Two horizontal steam-heater separators (a component of the steam generators) are being delivered from Russia for unit 1 of the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Turkiye. The initial part of the journey involved transportation along the frozen Neva River, accompanied by three icebreakers and two tugboats.
