Almasadam Satkaliyev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy says "Rosatom has a certain advantage as supplier of the nuclear island" for a planned NPP. Despite the difficult economic situation and sanctions, Rosatom's exports will grow by about 15% by the end of the year compared with 2021, Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev said in an extensive interview with Izvestia. Countries where new projects are already underway or are beginning include China, Turkey, Egypt, Hungary, India, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan's preparations to build its first nuclear power plant are gathering pace with a sense of making up for lost time. The Central Asian country became a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as long ago as 1994, has 50 years of experience in nuclear research and is the world's fifth biggest producer of uranium.
