Netherlands-based nuclear energy development and consultancy company ULC-Energy has undertaken a study that investigated the potential to use civil nuclear technologies to power commercial maritime vessels. The study was commissioned by mining company and shipping charterer BHP, a major producer of commodities including iron ore, copper, nickel, and metallurgical coal. BHP has approximately 80,000 employees and contractors, primarily in Australia and the Americas.

The first in-situ leach field test programme carried out by Denison on Tthe Heldeth Túé uranium deposit at Waterbury Lake achieved its planned objectives and has confirmed expectations that the deposit can be amenable to mining using in-situ techniques.

Rosatom specialists have completed work to rehabilitate legacy uranium tailing sites as part of a project to rehabilitate the Taboshar industrial site near the city of Istiklol in the Sughd region of Tajikistan. Russia has fully implemented measures to reclaim the dump of the low-grade uranium ore factory and four tailings dumps almost five months ahead of schedule.

Rosatom says that it has completed the work to reclaim the low-grade uranium ore factory and tailings dumps at Taboshar, near the city of Istiklol in the Sughd region of Tajikistan. The company also said Russia and Tajikistan are considering wider cooperation in the nuclear sector.

Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil (INB) says it has completed the first stage of demolition of buildings at the Unit for Decommissioning of Caldas (UDC) in southern Minas Gerais, which is currently undertaking clean-up of a former uranium mine. Altogether 12 buildings were demolished at the industrial plant comprising 1,900 square metres of disused structures. The cooling tower was the last structure demolished in early September. According to INB, the area where the buildings were located will be restructured using local soil.

Remediation works at Mailuu-Suu - the largest uranium legacy site in Kyrgyzstan - are set to begin following the allocation of a grant of EUR23 million (USD25 million) from the Environmental Remediation Account for Central Asia (ERA), managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Western Uranium & Vanadium has already acquired a site in Utah and begun work on designing and permitting the facility to process uranium, vanadium and cobalt. The new plant will process feed from Western's restarted Sunday Mine Complex.
