Sweden's Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari has announced the launch of an investigation to abolish the country's ban on uranium mining. The move was welcomed by Australia-based Aura Energy, which hopes to extract uranium as a by-product from its 100%-owned Häggån polymetallic project in Sweden.

During the World Nuclear Exhibition (WNE) 2023 in Paris, EDF Group signed several industrial cooperation agreements intended to secure the involvement of local supply chains and industries for the deployment of future EPR-technology-based and Nuward small modular reactor (SMR) projects in Europe and worldwide. These included agreements with Canada’s Ontario Power Group (OPG), various Czech companies and India’s Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).

Spanish, French and Slovakian engineering firms IDOM, Assystem and VUJE have set up the NUClear Engineering Alliance (NUCEAL) to support the development of EDF’s projects in the European Union. Belgian engineering firm Tractebel (part of French energy company Engie) has signed a Framework Cooperation Agreement with France’s Nuward and EDF to strengthen and extend collaboration in the development of the Nuward small modular reactor (SMR) technology. For over 50 years, Tractebel nuclear experts have supported the EDF Group in designing and operating the French nuclear fleet and building reactors in France and abroad.

EDF has announced that its Small Modular Reactor NUWARD will be the case study for a European early joint regulatory review led by the French Safety Authority (ASN) with the participation of the Czech (SUJB) and Finnish (STUK) safety authorities.
