Kazak President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in a wide-ranging state-of-the nation has proposed holding a referendum on the issue of NPP construction or refusal to build a nuclear power plant to a national referendum. The Ministry of energy said that, together with interested state bodies, Deputies of Parliament, experts in this field, and public activists, it will consider all issues related to the implementation of the President's instructions, work out other aspects and inform the public about this work.

The 52-page report provides an overview of the situation and the IAEA’s activities to reduce the likelihood of a nuclear accident during the armed conflict.

US President Dwight Eisenhower's 'Atoms for Peace' speech to the UN General Assembly in 1953 is still relevant as the world of today confronts the existential threat of climate change, World Nuclear Association Director General Sama Bilbao y León told delegates at a preparatory event for the Tenth NPT Review Conference that is expected to take place in August. Speaking at the event - titled Industry and Peaceful Applications of Nuclear Technology - Bilbao y León called upon all signatories to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which entered into force in 1970, to support the expansion of civil nuclear power.
