Framatome has been awarded a $1m contract award for phase two of the Digital Twin-based Diagnostics for Nuclear Auxiliary Systems project in North America. Funding is sponsored by the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) office under the GEMINA (Generating Electricity Managed by Intelligent Nuclear Assets) programme. GEMINA aims to develop digital twin technology for advanced nuclear reactors and transform operations and maintenance systems in the next generation of NPPs.

A floating autonomous robot could soon play a key role in safeguarding used nuclear fuel around the world. The Robotised Cherenkov Viewing Device (RCVD) has been created through a collaboration between Australian national science agency CSIRO's data and digital specialist arm Data61, Hungarian robotics company Datastart and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

NuScale Power and Paragon Energy Solutions have signed a patent licence agreement that will enable potential widespread use of the highly integrated protection system (HIPS) platform. The HIPS platform is a protection system architecture jointly developed by NuScale and Rock Creek Innovations, a company acquired by Paragon in December 2021.

US-based NuScale Power and Ultra Electronics Energy have unveiled a new safety display and indication system using field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology. It marks the first application of FPGA technology for real time display and monitoring in the US commercial nuclear industry.
