Chinese-French TAC-1 (CNPE) consortium has won a contract for the sub-assembly of modules for the vacuum vessel of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), under construction at Cadarache in southern France. The consortium includes China Nuclear Power Engineering (a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation - CNNC); China Nuclear Industry 23 Construction Company Ltd; Southwestern Institute of Physics; Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences ASIPP; and France’s Framatome.

Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto and Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev say that work on the new Paks II nuclear power plant is progressing well, with production of the melt trap completed in Russia and work on the reactor vessel set to start.

France’s Orano has signed a contract with Czech electric utility CEZ for the supply of uranium enrichment services. The enriched uranium will be used in fuel for the Dukovany NPP. The contract was signed during a trip by President Emmanuel Macron, to the Czech Republic to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in civil nuclear power.

Hundreds of former staff gathered to mark the achievements of the Joint European Torus (JET) in progressing nuclear fusion. The project has been a positive example of international collaboration, those attending were told, and the European Union hopes the UK will rejoin its Euratom and Fusion4Energy programme from 2028.

Slovak power utility Slovenské Elektrárne (SE) hosted a two-day forum, the 5th annual VVER Fuel Forum in Bratislava. The forum on nuclear fuel for VVER 440 and VVER 1000 reactors, which was sponsored by Westinghouse, was attended by representatives of utilities that are potential customers for Westinghouse VVER fuel. These included Ukraine’s Energoatom, Finland’s Fortum, the Czech Republic’s CEZ, Bulgaria’s JE Kozloduy, and Hungary’s nuclear plant operator MVM Paks. The participants exchanged experiences on the procedure for implementing fuel from Westinghouse for operating VVER-440 and VVER-1000 reactors.

Bulgaria's Energy Minister Rumen Radev, during a visit to Paris has signed a declaration of intent with French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire to establish bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. The French Economy Ministry said as members of the European Nuclear Alliance, France and Bulgaria emphasise the essential role of nuclear energy to achieve the objective of climate neutrality of the European Union by 2050 and to strengthen energy security and sovereignty. The two countries will continue their co-operation both within the Alliance and bilaterally.
