Iran has resolved two outstanding inquiries from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) related to the presence of highly enriched uranium (HEU) particles at several sites. The confidential quarterly report by the IAEA, which is routinely leaked to the press, said inspectors no longer had questions on uranium particles found to be enriched to 83.7% at its underground Fordow facility. This had resulted in tension for the past several months although some resolution was achieved in March following a visit to Tehran by IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi. Iran had insisted at that time that those particles were a by-product of its current enrichment as particles can reach higher enrichment levels in fluctuations. “The agency informed Iran that, following its evaluation of the data, the agency had assessed that the information provided was not inconsistent with Iran’s explanation ... and that the agency had no further questions on this matter at this stage,” the report said.

Speaking in an online interview with magazine Interesse Nacional, Mr Albuquerque also said the government will soon announce an executive decree to minimise the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the energy sector.
In June it was reported that Brazil had approved a business model to complete Angra-3 with or without a partner joining Eletronuclear, the Eletrobras subsidiary that operates the country’s nuclear reactors.
Eletronuclear president Leonam Guimaraes said earlier this year that Brazil wanted to find a partner by 2023 to help finish and operate Angra-3, with companies in China, Russia, France and South Korea among possible candidates. He said lower demand for electricity and a fall in the value of the Brazilian real during the coronavirus crisis could push completion of Angra-3 into 2027,

19 Jan (NucNet): Construction of the Angra-3 nuclear power reactor in Brazil could resume in the second half of 2018 as long as an agreement is reached to increase the tariff for energy generated by the plant from around 222.18 Brazilian reals (BRL) (€64, $69) per MWh, which is below the BRL 224 per MWh paid for electricity generated by Angra-1 and Angra-2, the president of nuclear operator Eletrobras Eletronuclear said.
