Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) hosted the Korea-Czech Republic Nuclear Power R&D Cooperation Symposium at the Marriott Hotel in Prague. The symposium was organised as part of international energy research activities supported by the Korean and Czech ministries of trade, industry, and energy to cooperate with the aim of winning a new nuclear power plant project in the Czech Republic. Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) says it is developing digital twin technology to monitor and control South Korea’s 26 nuclear power units more effectively. A digital model of a physical system will allow its central R&D centre in Daejeon to remotely check the units at all five NPPs – Kori, Wolsong, Hanbit, Hanul and Saeul – and react immediately to unexpected situations.

The University of Warsaw (UW) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korea’s Kepco International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS), Pusan National University (PNU) and Korea Nuclear Association for International Cooperation (KNA). The agreement will support the establishment of a European training centre for nuclear energy at the UW’s Faculty of Physics.

World leaders gathered in Brussels at the first ever Nuclear Energy Summit co-chaired by the Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi. The Summit was the highest-level meeting to date exclusively focused on the topic of nuclear energy. It followed inclusion of nuclear energy in the Global Stocktake agreed at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai in December 2023 and the launch of the IAEA’s Atoms4NetZero initiative.

Bulgaria’s National Assembly (Parliament) has ratified the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in nuclear energy, signed in February between Bulgaria and the US. The agreement was supported by 149 deputies of the parties of the ruling majority. Some 50 opposition representatives voted against it.
