US-based Holtec International has announced that the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has issued the final environmental impact statement (EIS) for its proposed HI-STORE consolidated interim storage facility (CISF) for used nuclear fuel in Southeastern New Mexico.

Work to prepare all foreign-owned high-level waste for return to overseas customers has been completed, the UK's Sellafield Ltd has announced. A total of 1840 containers have been prepared for return to overseas customers since 2008, as part of the closing out of commercial reprocessing contracts from the Thorp reprocessing plant.

The facility, known in Ukraine as the centralised spent nuclear fuel storage facility (CSFSF), is inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone in the north of the country and will be used to store spent fuel from the Rovno, Khmelnitski and South Ukraine nuclear stations.
In May 2020, Energoatom said construction and installation work had been delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic and delays restoring railway access. However, dry runs have already begun to test the facility.
The main contractor for the facility is US-based Holtec International, which also built the separate ISF-2 facility at Chernobyl for the processing of more than 21,000 fuel assemblies from Chernobyl-1, -2 and -3.

The Oceanic Pintail purpose-built nuclear transport ship, which was decommissioned in November 2020 after 33 years of service, has now been fully recycled, Nuclear Transport Solutions (NTS) announced today. Its contractor - Dales Marine Services - had been set the target that 98% of the vessel be recycled.

France’s Orano announced that German utility companies PreussenElektra, RWE, ENBW and Vattenfall had signed a set of contracts for a total amount in excess of €1 billion ($1.17bn), for the return of all the German nuclear waste still stored at the Orano la Hague plant.
