The AED 8.89bn ($2.42bn) refinancing of the Barakah NPP project in Abu Dhabi, announced in 2023, has been recognised as a Green Loan Facility. The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) said this “underscores nuclear energy’s major contribution to powering the UAE’s green economy and energy transition strategy through clean, carbon emissions-free electricity”.

US-based Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering and SK Ecoplant to conduct R&D on clean hydrogen production. The three companies intend to construct a Hydrogen Micro Hub at the SK Ecoplant’s headquarters in Seoul's Jongno-gu.

The restart of Argentina’s Heavy Water Industrial Plant (PIAP - Planta Industrial de Agua Pesada) at Arroyito in Neuquén, planned for 2025, is seen as opening possibilities for clean energy generation and for export. Following a recent visit to the plant, Adriana Serquis, President of the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA - Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica), said PIAP was a “strategic asset” for Argentina.

Argentina will export some of the heavy water produced at its re-commissioned Neuquén production plant for scientific and medical purposes. Most of the heavy water will go to support the country's three nuclear power plants. The plant may also be modified to produce clean fuels like ammonia and hydrogen.

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has said it has received Approval In Principle from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for a conceptual design of a Compact Molten Salt Reactor (CMSR) Power Barge - floating offshore NPP – using technology being developed by Denmark’s Seaborg. SHI signed a business agreement with Seaborg in January 2022 to develop a floating NPP and plans to commercialise it by 2028 after completing detailed design of all power generation facilities.

ARC Clean Energy Canada (ARC Canada) and Canadian engineering firm Hatch have announced a teaming agreement for the deployment of ARC Canada’s advanced small modular reactor (aSMR) technology. The agreement supports a plan to deploy the clean technology in New Brunswick before the end of the decade.

Terrestrial Energy said that zero-emission thermal energy from IMSR nuclear cogeneration can be used in the production process of hydrogen and ammonia.
KBR supplies ammonia production technology to chemical manufacturers globally, the statement said.
According to Terrestrial Energy, KBR will support the development of “commercial frameworks” for the deployment and marketing of ammonia production technology using IMSR cogeneration.
