A consignment of intermediate-level waste (ILW) was delivered to the interim waste store at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation’s (ANSTO’s) Lucas Heights facility in Australia on 13 March. This comprised a  single flask containing ILW in the form of vitrified residues which resulted from the reprocessing and recycling of used fuel from a research reactor, medicine and scientific research in Australia.

The UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) have completed the transfer of around 700kg of highly enriched uranium (HEU) from Dounreay, in northern Scotland, to the USA.

Cold and active commissioning has been completed of the full-scale demonstration GeoMelt In-Container Vitrification (ICV) plant at the UK's Sellafield site. In January 2014, the UK's National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) and US radioactive waste management specialist Kurion announced a joint project to construct a full-scale demonstration GeoMelt ICV plant at NNL's Central Laboratory on the Sellafield site in Cumbria. The initial non-radioactive phase of the system's commissioning programme was completed in November 2015 at NNL's engineering facility in Workington. The system has since been dismantled, transported to Sellafield and reassembled.
