The possibility of using nuclear fuel from suppliers other than Russia’s TVEL at the Paks NPP has been legally enshrined in Hungary’s legislation. Members of the national parliament supported an amendment to the nuclear energy strategy proposed by the government. State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy Attila Steiner noted that Paks, Hungary’s only NPP currently uses nuclear fuel supplied by Rosatom enterprises.

Portfolio of foreign orders will ‘remain stable’ at $200bn Rosatom director-general Alexey Likhachev. Russia’s state nuclear energy company Rosatom expects its exports to have increased by 15% this year, director-general Alexey Likhachev was quoted as saying by Russian newspaper Izvestia.

Rosatom’s portfolio of foreign orders is set to remain stable at $200bn (€188bn), “even in the current geopolitical situation”, Likhachev said.

He said the supply of Rosatom products and services abroad is expected to top $10bn this year.

The rise in exports this year is due to contracts Rosatom was already implementing, as well as its supplying of fuel, conversion services, and enriched uranium products, Likhachev said.

Rosatom has avoided sanctions related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine because of its importance in the supply chain of the global nuclear power industry.

However, many Western governments and customers have been looking to procure alternative nuclear fuel supply so as not to rely on Russia for part of their energy needs.

The president of Russia's Uranium One Group, Vasily Konstantinov, said in an interview published online by Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom that falling demand for uranium is caused partly by the slow restart of reactors in Japan following the Fukushima accident, as well as by secondary uranium sources such as military and other inventories. Konstantinov said he believed the price of uranium, which has fallen by about 25% in 2016 and 60% since Fukushima, will recover "when there is a balance between the fuel demand of nuclear generation and the uranium supply to the market from different sources".

Kazakhstan's national atomic company Kazatomprom is negotiating ways to strengthen its partnership with Russia's nuclear fuel manufacturer Tvel and its parent-company, the state nuclear corporation Rosatom, Baurzhan Ibraev, director of Kazatomprom's fuel branch said on 12 April. He added that Kazatomprom is planning to set up a nuclear fuel manufacturing enterprise in 2016 and Tvel's experience will be "valuable" in this.

Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom has finally decided to sell the Honeymoon uranium project in northern South Australia to ASX-listed Boss Resources. Boss is a Subiaco, Australia-registered minerals exploration company that has nickel and copper projects in Sweden and Finland and gold projects in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Boss said it had entered into an agreement with Rosatom subsidiaries Uranium One Inc and Uranium One Australia Pty Ltd to acquire 100% of the issued share capital in Uranium One Australia, which owns the Honeymoon project.
