According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Saudi Arabia is considering a Chinese proposal to build a NPP. Citing Saudi sources acquainted with the situation, WSJ said China National Nuclear Corp (SNNS) had submitted a bid to construct a nuclear plant in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, close to the border with Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

A new assessment released by US intelligence concludes that Iran is boosting its nuclear capabilities but is not pursuing the development of nuclear weapons. According to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s assessment, Iran has “undertaken research and development activities that would bring it closer to producing the fissile material needed” to produce a nuclear weapon. However, despite accelerating its nuclear programme since 2020, it is still not yet capable of producing a weapon. “Iran is not currently undertaking the key nuclear weapons-development activities that would be necessary to produce a testable nuclear device,” the assessment notes.

The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) has rebutted media reports that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Tehran had agreed to reinstall 10 monitoring cameras at the Natanz nuclear complex in central Iran. AEOI spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi said the reactivation of IAEA cameras had taken place at a nuclear plant in Isfahan, which he defined as a “centrifuge manufacturing facility”. He said that Natanz had been incorrectly identified by various media sources as the site.
