Lightbridge Corporation has signed orders with the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), operator of Norway's Halden research reactor, for the design and fabrication of a second irradiation rig for testing of its fuels. The IFE is already manufacturing a first test rig ready for irradiation testing of Lightbridge's fuel samples in the reactor.

Kazakhstan is considering possibly taking back some nuclear assets from joint ventures (JVs), President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a meeting with the president of national atomic company (NAC) Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliev. "NAC Kazatomprom holds interests in different joint ventures, in some of which the partners fail to meet the commitments they undertook. In this regard, it is necessary either to ensure that they meet those commitments or consider the possibility of returning the assets to the state," Nazarbayev said.

US-based GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Vietnam Atomic Energy Agency (VAEA) "aimed at enhancing the agency's understanding of light water reactor technology and nuclear project management". The agreement calls for GEH and VAEA to "cooperate to promote training and development of qualified human resources" associated with the development of Vietnam's civil nuclear power programme. GEH will provide practical work experience for VAEA staff in areas such as nuclear safety culture, project management and quality assurance.

Jordan and Japan have signed an agreement that will enhance and develop cooperation between both countries in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The agreement, signed 10 September, could pave the way for the development of an ATMEA1 (Areva/MHI) nuclear power plant in Jordan. ATMEA1 is among three reactor designs being considered for Jordan's first nuclear power plant. (The other reactors are Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd’s Enhanced CANDU 6 (EC6), and the AES-92 VVER-1000 reactor from Russia’s Atomstroyexport)
