President Biden has signed into law HR 1042, the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act, just two weeks after the bill was passed unanimously by the US Senate. The legislation, which bans the import of Russian-produced low enriched uranium (LEU), will come into effect 90 days after the date of the enactment of the bill, and will remain in effect until the end of 2040. Waivers may be granted to allow the import of limited amounts of LEU, under certain circumstances, until 1 January 2028.

Chicago-based Clean Core Thorium Energy (CCTE) has extended its collaboration with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) on its ANEEL fuel technology. CNL has approved a Clean Core submitted proposal, “Advanced Nuclear Energy for Enriched Life (ANEEL) CNSC Licensing Verification and Validation,” as a proposed project managed under the Canadian Nuclear Research Initiative (CNRI) Programme. CNL will work with Clean Core to further establish scope and timeline.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), Canada-based ARC Clean Technology and New Brunswick Power (NB Power) have signed a non-binding trilateral Collaboration Agreement to further cooperation with the goal of establishing teaming agreements for global small modular reactor (SMR) fleet deployment. GE Vernova’s Nuclear business, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH), has established a group of qualified supply chain companies to advance the global deployment of the BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR). The purpose of the supplier group is to help ensure a reliable, cost effective and innovative process for the manufacture and commercialisation of the BWRX-300. Suppliers who meet pre-defined criteria, customer requirements and demonstrate a willingness to invest in BWRX-300 supply chain capabilities are eligible for selection to the group. The first company to join the group is BWXT Canada Ltd, a subsidiary of BWX Technologies.
