Lithuania has identified 77 potential locations for its planned geological repository for used nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. A final decision on the facility's location is not expected until 2047.

World leaders gathered in Brussels at the first ever Nuclear Energy Summit co-chaired by the Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi. The Summit was the highest-level meeting to date exclusively focused on the topic of nuclear energy. It followed inclusion of nuclear energy in the Global Stocktake agreed at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai in December 2023 and the launch of the IAEA’s Atoms4NetZero initiative.

An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Integrated Review Service for Radioactive Waste and Spent Fuel Management, Decommissioning and Remediation (ARTEMIS) mission concluded that Croatia is committed to addressing the challenges of managing its radioactive waste. The team also identified specific areas for additional efforts including the development of arrangements for the safe and secure centralised storage of radioactive waste.

Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) is starting the process of evaluating four potential areas for suitability to host the UK's Geological Disposal Facility. It is expected that a final site selection could be a process which takes 10-15 years.

Croatia is committed to addressing the challenges of managing its radioactive waste, an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team of experts has concluded. Croatia is a co-owner of the Krško nuclear power plant, located in neighbouring Slovenia.

The Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) has recently published a 73-page study, which tracks the progress of selected small modular reactor (SMR) designs towards deployment.
