Group of Seven (G7) energy and environment ministers, following a two-day meeting in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo, issued a 36-page communique laying out their commitments ahead of a G7 summit in Hiroshima in May. The detailed statement covered sections on environment, climate and energy. It reaffirmed a commitment to accelerating the clean energy transition to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. “We call on and will work with other countries to end new unabated coal-fired power generation projects globally as soon as possible to accelerate the clean energy transition in a just manner,” the statement says, stipulating that countries should rely on “predominantly” clean energy by 2035.

Electrochemical Plant (ECP), a subsidiary of Rosatom's nuclear fuel manufacturer TVEL, recorded a 14% increase in revenue from the sale of stable isotopes in 2020, exceeding RUB1.5 billion (USD20.1 million) for the first time. The Zelenogorsk, Krasnoyarsk-based company's global market share of the stable isotope market remains over 40%, TVEL said.

France’s Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire (ASN - Nuclear Safety Authority) on 5 August posted online the report of an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) pre-OSART (pre-operational safety review team) mission which took place in mid 2019 at the Flamanville NPP and which concerned the EPR reactor under construction at unit 3.

The French nuclear safety authority, Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire (ASN), has published the report of an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Pre-Operational Safety Review Team (Pre-OSART) mission conducted last year at the Flamanville 3 EPR. The mission team identified eight good practices and made six recommendations and 15 suggestions.

Slovenske Elektrarne, the owner and operator of unit 3 of the Mochovce nuclear power plant in Slovakia, has shown a commitment to safety, an expert team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has concluded. The team also identified areas for further enhancements at the 471 MWe VVER unit, which is due to start up next year.

An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Pre-Operational Safety Review Team (Pre-OSART) team concluded an 18-day mission to unit 3 of the Mochovce NPP in Slovakia on 5 December. The team observed a commitment to safety by owner/operator Slovenske Elektrarne ahead of the unit’s start of commercial operation and also identified areas for further improvement. Slovakia is building two 471 MWe VVER-440 pressurised water reactors at the site where two 470 MWe units are already in operation.
