Group of Seven (G7) energy and environment ministers, following a two-day meeting in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo, issued a 36-page communique laying out their commitments ahead of a G7 summit in Hiroshima in May. The detailed statement covered sections on environment, climate and energy. It reaffirmed a commitment to accelerating the clean energy transition to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. “We call on and will work with other countries to end new unabated coal-fired power generation projects globally as soon as possible to accelerate the clean energy transition in a just manner,” the statement says, stipulating that countries should rely on “predominantly” clean energy by 2035.

France’s Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire (ASN - Nuclear Safety Authority) on 5 August posted online the report of an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) pre-OSART (pre-operational safety review team) mission which took place in mid 2019 at the Flamanville NPP and which concerned the EPR reactor under construction at unit 3.

The French nuclear safety authority, Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire (ASN), has published the report of an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Pre-Operational Safety Review Team (Pre-OSART) mission conducted last year at the Flamanville 3 EPR. The mission team identified eight good practices and made six recommendations and 15 suggestions.

Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom in 2016 will contribute RUB24.6m ($300,000) from its state budget allocation to the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA's) International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles (INPRO project), according to a Russian government directive published on the official legal information portal. The directive says Rosatom and the Russian Foreign Ministry will monitor the use of the Russian contribution.
