In May, Chinese president Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin watched the launch ceremony by video link of a nuclear energy project to build four new Russia-supplied reactors in China.
The ceremony marked official groundbreaking for the construction of Xudabao-3 and Xudabao-4 (also known as Xudapu) and Tianwan-7 and Tianwan-8 in Jiangsu province, eastern China. Tianwan-7 and Tianwan-8 will also be Russia supplied VVER-1200 plants.

Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom and the V4G4 Centre of Excellence on 26 June signed a memorandum for participation in the International Research Centre (IRC) based around Russia’s Multi-Purpose Research Reactor (MBIR). MBIR is under construction at the Research Institute of Atomic Reactors (NIIAR) in Dimitrovgrad.

Swedish utility Vattenfall announced on 14 December that it had signed long-term supply contracts with three nuclear fuel manufacturers, including for the first time Russia's TVEL alongside France’s French Areva and US-based Westinghouse. The agreements, totalling SEK1.2bn ($131m), related to 19 consignments to units 3 and 4 of the Ringhals NPP between 2018 and 2025.
