An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) International Physical Protection Advisory Service (IPPAS) follow-up mission has completed a 12-day mission to Switzerland at the request of the Swiss Government. Japan’s Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the operator of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS), has demonstrated its capabilities for accurate and precise measurements of the radionuclides present in the treated water stored on site, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA’s) latest report covering its independent sampling and analysis work. This is part of its ongoing review to assess the safety related aspects of Japan’s plan to release the treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi NPS into the sea. In line with relevant IAEA international safety standards, Tepco is required to monitor the characteristics and activity of the treated water in order to accurately evaluate public exposure that will result from the discharge and to comply with its national regulatory authorisation.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says Director General Rafael Grossi will brief the UN Security Council on his proposals for safeguarding Ukraine’s Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP) on 30 May. “Grossi is planning to brief the UN Security Council on the nuclear safety and security situation” during a meeting chaired by Switzerland, according to a statement sent by the Agency to AFP.
