China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) says construction has been completed of the main internal structure for the reactor building at the ACP-100 small modular reactor (SMR) demonstration project at the Changjiang NPP in Hainan Province. The multi-purpose, 125 MWe SMR (also known as Linglong One) is a pressurised water reactor designed for electricity generation, urban heating, urban cooling, industrial steam production, or seawater desalination.

The closure of Kuosheng-2 on 15 March leaves two units in operation at the Maanshan nuclear power station, but both are scheduled to be shut down in the next two years, fulfilling the ruling Democratic Progressive Party’s promise of a “nuclear-free homeland” by 2025.
The four reactors that have been shut down had a total net capacity of 3,178 MW, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency. The two remaining reactors have a total net capacity of 1,874 MW.
Chinshan-1 was shut down in 2018, Chinshan-2 in 2019 and Kuosheng-1 in 2021.

During a two day visit to Iran, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi held high level talks with Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Affairs Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and Vice-President of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami. The visit followed reports that particles of uranium enriched to 83.7% had been detected at Iran's underground Fordow plant when Iran had formally notified IAEA of enrichment only up to 60%. There was also an outstanding issue of uranium particles identified at three locations not normally subject to IAEA inspections.

Head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami has said Iran is building a 2,000 MWe NPP of indigenous design in Khuzestan province. The Karun NPP in Darkhovin District in Khuzestan’s Shadegan County will generate 300 MWe in the preliminary phase. Other phases will follow.

The head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, says inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are visiting Iran’s nuclear facilities and that the recent points of ambiguity either have been, or are being, resolved. He told reporters that those ambiguities were caused by the incorrect interpretation of an IAEA inspector, who visited earlier, over an alleged undeclared change to uranium enriching equipment at Fordow.

Unit 3 at Pakistan’s Karachi NPP (Kanupp) in Sindh province has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This is the second China-supplied 1,100 MWe Hualong One reactor to begin operation at Kanupp. The new unit represents an investment of $2.7bn and was built as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.

A ceremony has been held to mark the inauguration of unit 3 of the Karachi nuclear power plant in Pakistan. China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) said the two Hualong One reactors at the site have now both officially been delivered to Pakistan and put into operation.
