International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi spent two days in Iran for talks with high level officials including Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, Iranian Top Nuclear Negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani and the head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami. His visit was at Eslami’s invitation, in order to also participate in the 1st International Conference on Nuclear Science & Technology (ICNST) as well as the 30th National Nuclear Conference in Isfahan (see related story).

Kazakhstan’s national atomic company Kazatomprom has reported a slight year-on-year increase in its first quarter uranium production. Production for the quarter was 5077 tU (100% basis), up from 4744 tU for the same period in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 7%. However, Kazatomprom emphasised that its production guidance for 2024 of 21,000-22,500 tU (100% basis) remains unchanged while noting that "sanctions pressure due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and limited access to some key materials are not known". As a result, “annual production volumes may differ from internal expectations".

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi addressed the 26th World Energy Congress in the Netherlands organised by the World Energy Council (WEC). This year’s event, held in Rotterdam under the slogan “Redesigning Energy for People and Planet”, brought together 70 ministers from 150 countries, as well as some 7,000 international energy stakeholders.

The discharge of treated water from Japan's Fukushima Daiichi NPP is progressing in accordance with the Implementation Plan approved by Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA), the Task Force set up by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed.

The fifth discharge of treated water from Japan's crippled Fukushima Daiichi NPP was suspended for several hours following a power outage, local media has reported. The outage occurred after as a power cable at the plant was damaged during excavation work, Kyodo reported, citing plant owner Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (Tepco). The system to cool reactors and used fuel pools was not affected by the power cutoff and continued to operate, Tepco said.
