Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, during a five-day visit to Russia, signed agreements with Russia for additional units of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The agreement was signed following a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Industry & Trade Denis Manturov.

The barge vital carrying two steam generators for units 5&6 of India’s Kudankulam NPP is stuck on a rock close to the plant’s purpose built jetty. The ongoing operation to rescue the barge suffered a setback recently resulting in the bottom of the barge being damaged, The Hindu reported.

Two nuclear reactors and eight steam generators for the Kudankulam NPP in India and the Tianwan NPP in China have been transported through the central streets of Volgodonsk in Russia, where they were manufactured, to a specialised berth on the Tsimlyansk reservoir. They were sent by road from the Atommash production site of AEM-Technologies (part Rosatom’s mechanical engineering deivision Atomenergomash). Transportation took place at night to avoid traffic disruption in the city.

El Dabaa, Egypt’s first nuclear station, will have four Russia-supplied Generation III+ VVER-1200 pressurised water reactors, with the first unit expected to be online in 2026.
On 31 October, the Nuclear and Radiological Regulation Authority of Egypt issued the construction permit for Unit 2 of El Dabaa. Construction of Unit 1 began on 20 July 2022.

The contract between state-run Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) and Atomstroyexport JSC, a Rosatom subsidiary, includes the construction of 80 buildings and structures at the station’s four units. KHNP will also procure and supply equipment and materials.
In July an official ceremony was held to mark the start of first concrete pouring for Unit 1 of El Dabaa, meaning the country’s first commercial nuclear plant has entered the main construction phase.
El Dabaa will have four Generation III+ VVER-1200 reactors supplied by Rosatom under agreements signed in 2015 and 2017. The first unit is scheduled to begin commercial operation in 2026.
