US secretary of state Mike Pompeo said he is cancelling one of four sanctions waivers that had allowed foreign companies to work with Iran’s civilian nuclear programme without US penalties.
The waivers are among the last remaining components of the 2015 nuclear deal the Trump administration withdrew from last year.
Mr Pompeo said the waiver for Iran’s Fordow uranium enrichment facility will be cancelled on 15 December. Iran recently announced it would resume uranium enrichment at the facility, which is built into a mountain.

The Central Asian country became a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as long ago as 1994, has 50 years of experience in nuclear research and is the world's fifth biggest producer of uranium.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced today the passing of its director general, Yukiya Amano. His term in office was due to end in late 2021, but Amano, who was 72, had been planning to step down from the post, which he had held for almost ten years, the agency said.

Iranian officials and a visiting European Union (EU) delegation headed by European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on 16 April signed various memoranda of understanding for cooperation on research. Iran's participation in the EU Horizon 2020 framework programme was also discussed, Iranian media reported. The European commission, and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) issued a joint statement on cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy which would include establishment of a regular high-level dialogue meeting once a year (the Framework for Partnership on Nuclear Energy) to review topics of common interest in the nuclear field.
