The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission should address potential impacts of climate change–related hazards during the licensing process for nuclear power plants, the Government Accountability Office has recommended.

US-based X-energy Reactor Company and Canadian power company TransAlta Corporation have announced a partnership to study deployment of X-energy’s Xe-100 small modular reactors (SMRs) in Alberta. The study will be supported through funding from Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) and will assess the feasibility of repurposing a fossil fuel electricity generation site for an Xe-100 plant.

X-energy and Cavendish Nuclear have been granted GBP3.34 million (USD4.23 million) in funding from the UK government to develop plans for the deployment of X-energy's Xe-100 high temperature gas-cooled reactor in the country.

World leaders gathered in Brussels at the first ever Nuclear Energy Summit co-chaired by the Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi. The Summit was the highest-level meeting to date exclusively focused on the topic of nuclear energy. It followed inclusion of nuclear energy in the Global Stocktake agreed at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai in December 2023 and the launch of the IAEA’s Atoms4NetZero initiative.

Polish utility Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ), which is responsible for the construction of Poland's first NPP, has joined the Mutual Insurance Association (TUW - Towarzystwo Ubezpieczen Wzajemnych) of the Polish Mutual Insurance Institution (PZUW - Polski Zaklad Ubezpieczen Wzajemnych). PEJ said this is an important stage on the road to providing insurance protection for this key energy project.
