The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has awarded five organisations six contracts worth £7.4m ($9.4m) in total to develop lithium technology for fusion energy. Four universities and one company have received contracts ranging between £700,000 and £1.5m from UKAEA’s ‘Fusion Industry Programme’.

South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy (MOTIE) and the UK’s Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) signed a Clean Energy Partnership during the state visit of President Yoon Suk Yeo to the UK. The partnership was signed by MOTIE’s Minister Bang Moon Kyu and the UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Claire Coutinho. It reaffirms their consensus on the initiatives of the Carbon Free Alliance, expanding technology collaboration in clean energy and establishing high-level discussions on these agendas.

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has invited comments on the proposed Cameco and Brookfield Renewable Partners acquisition of Westinghouse Electric Company as it considers whether the deal "may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition" in the United Kingdom.

In its draft Climate Fund for 2024, the Dutch government has budgeted funds totalling EUR320 million (USD352 million) for the development of nuclear energy. The funds will be used for the preparation of the operational extension of the existing Borssele nuclear power plant, the construction of two new large reactors, the development of small modular reactors (SMRs) and for nuclear skills development in the Netherlands.

The UK Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has announced the opening of a GBP75 million ($90m) nuclear fund to boost production of fuel for reactors. Businesses can now register their interest in applying for funding when the scheme opens for applications later this year. BEIS said the fund will support and create high value jobs and skills in the sector and give businesses the confidence to invest in the UK.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on 18 August that Iran’s nuclear programme and activities were fully in line with the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its Safeguards commitments. Khatibzadeh noted in a statement that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been supervising Iran’s nuclear activities and that Tehran had notified the IAEA of its measures in advance.
