Uzbekistan’s Nuclear Energy Development Agency under the Ministry of Energy, Uzatom, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of nuclear infrastructure development with Rosatom Technical Academy and Russian nuclear utility Rosenergoatom. For Russia, the MoU was signed by the General Director of Rosenergoatom, Andrey Petrov, and the rector of the Rosatom Technical Academy, Yuri Seleznev. General Director of the Uzatom Agency Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov signed for Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan is "making great strides" in developing its nuclear and regulatory infrastructure in strong partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Uzbek Minister of Energy Alisher Sultanov told participants in the 64th IAEA General Conference yesterday. Four projects aimed at building up Uzbekistan's technical capacity, human resources, developing nuclear infrastructure, and strengthening nuclear and radiation safety have been approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA's) board of governors. The Central Asian country aims to have two nuclear power reactors in operation by 2030.

Uzbekistan's Ministry of Justice has published details of a presidential decree that approves a human resources strategy for the Central Asian country's nuclear power programme. According to a ministry statement, dated 18 October, the strategy includes establishing cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the World Nuclear University at World Nuclear Association, as well as educational institutions managed by Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom.
