X-Energy UK Holdings and Cavendish Nuclear are developing proposals for small modular reactors (SMRs) in the UK and have "identified Hartlepool as a preferred location" - welcoming EDF's announcement that the existing nuclear power plant will operate for an extra two years, to 2026.

Japanese engineering, procurement, and construction firm JGC Holdings Corporation (JGC HD) has agreed to invest USD40 million in small modular reactor developer NuScale Power. It will also partner with Fluor Corporation - NuScale's majority investor - on the deployment of NuScale power plants.

The US Department of Energy has approved a cost-share award of more than USD1 billion for the construction of the first NuScale small modular reactor power plant in the USA. Meanwhile, the US International Development Finance Corporation has signed a Letter of Intent to support NuScale in the development of nuclear generating capacity in South Africa.
