France’s Framatome has signed multi-billion euro contracts with Sizewell C Ltd, a standalone company majority-owned by the UK government, laying out the scope of its involvement in the Sizewell C nuclear new build project. This followed the UK Government Investment Decision in November 2022 to approve the construction of two EPR reactors at the Sizewell site on the Suffolk Coast. The two units will generate 3.2 GW of electricity and power the equivalent of 6m homes for 60 years.

The Turkish government has decided that Rosatom will build the country’s second NPP, Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev told the State Duma (Russia’s lower house of parliament). The announcement was broadcast on the website of the lower house. “President [Taiip Revzhip] Erdogan publicly announced that a political decision had been made to transfer another site to us,” Likhachev noted. Now we are studying the details. Most likely, it will be a site called Sinop.”

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) has completed manufacture of the final toroidal field (TF) coil ordered by Japan's National Institutes for Quantum & Radiological Science & Technology (QST) for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) under construction at Cadarache in France. Japan is responsible for the manufacture of nine of 19 TF coils for ITER, with MHI producing five coils.

Japan's Agency for Natural Resources & Energy (ANRE - part of the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry) has selected Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) as the core company to lead development of a high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) programme. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has been selected as the core company in charge of the conceptual design of a demonstration fast reactor which the government aims to put into operation in the 2040s. MHI will oversee both the conceptual design as well as research and development for a sodium-cooled fast reactor in partnership with Mitsubishi FBR Systems (MFBR), an MHI Group engineering company established in 2007 to handle the development and design of fast reactors. The design work for the new reactor is scheduled to begin in fiscal 2024.
