National Atomic Company Kazatomprom has announced that the Kazakhstan-China joint venture, Ulba-TVS LLP, which produces fuel for Chinese NPPs has completed the qualification process for the production of AFA 3G type A fuel assemblies. Technology holder France’s Framatome has confirmed the announcement. Work on the certification began in March 2023 and took place in four stages, Kazatomprom noted.

Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, during a five-day visit to Russia, signed agreements with Russia for additional units of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The agreement was signed following a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Industry & Trade Denis Manturov.

The recent visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan resulted in a raft of agreements covering a wide range of areas. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said the visit was of special importance in terms of determining the prospects for the development of relations between the two countries. He noted that the independent development of the two countries was not an obstacle but resulted in a mutually beneficial partnership” which was “well understood in both Kazakhstan and Russia”.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has concluded a five-day Site and External Events Design (SEED) mission to Kazakhstan to review the country's process for selecting the site of a planned nuclear power plant.

Rosatom says that it has completed the work to reclaim the low-grade uranium ore factory and tailings dumps at Taboshar, near the city of Istiklol in the Sughd region of Tajikistan. The company also said Russia and Tajikistan are considering wider cooperation in the nuclear sector.

Kazak President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in a wide-ranging state-of-the nation has proposed holding a referendum on the issue of NPP construction or refusal to build a nuclear power plant to a national referendum. The Ministry of energy said that, together with interested state bodies, Deputies of Parliament, experts in this field, and public activists, it will consider all issues related to the implementation of the President's instructions, work out other aspects and inform the public about this work.

Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry has provided an update on previously conducted studies related to the choice of reactor technologies and siting for Kazakhstan’s first NPP.
