Energy and environment ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) countries meeting in Turin have reportedly reached a deal to shut down their coal-fired power plants in the first half of the 2030s. Italian energy minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, who is chairing the meeting said there is a technical agreement pending a final political decision.

An Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has concluded a 13-day mission to Argentina. The IRRS team reviewed all regulatory functions and responsibilities of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN) against international safety standards and concluded that the regulator had demonstrated a long-standing commitment to enhancing and promoting nuclear safety. The team also recommended areas where improvements can be made. The mission was conducted at the request of the Government of Argentina and hosted by ARN.

Russia has asked for International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi to brief an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council about the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine. Meanwhile G7 foreign ministers have demanded Russia "hand back full control" of the plant "to its rightful sovereign owner, Ukraine".

All realistic options that might contribute to global net-zero must be considered, the Generation IV International Forum (GIF) has said in an open letter to COP26 President Alok Sharma. Nuclear systems and advanced reactors - such as Generation IV systems - can contribute to a net-zero society alongside renewable energies, it says.

An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Pre-Operational Safety Review Team (Pre-OSART) team concluded an 18-day mission to unit 3 of the Mochovce NPP in Slovakia on 5 December. The team observed a commitment to safety by owner/operator Slovenske Elektrarne ahead of the unit’s start of commercial operation and also identified areas for further improvement. Slovakia is building two 471 MWe VVER-440 pressurised water reactors at the site where two 470 MWe units are already in operation.

Leonam Guimaraes, president of Brazil's state nuclear power company Eletronuclear, told Reuters that Brazil plans to complete the delayed unit 3 at its Angra NPP in partnership with either China's National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), France's EDF or Russia state nuclear corporation Rosatom.
