Russia's All Russian Scientific & Research Institute for Nuclear Power Plant Operation (VNIIAES) is upgrading the full-scale simulator (FSS) it supplied to unit 1 of Iran's Bushehr NPP, the institute said. The simulator was commissioned for pilot operation in 2010, a year before start-up of the unit 1 reactor. VNIIAES explains that there are two stages in design and delivery of FSS: the stage of "freezing" the input data, which allows timely delivering the simulator to the customer, and the stage of upgrading where actual data on the power unit are made available. During "freezing", the calculated design data, as well as the data of reference power units, are used as input data. After the power unit has been commissioned the FSS is upgraded using test results obtained during start-up and adjustment.
