Kairos Power has successfully completed 1000 hours of pumped salt operations with its non-nuclear Engineering Testing Unit (ETU). The unit, loaded with 12 tonnes of Flibe salt, is the largest Flibe system ever built and will inform the design, construction, and operation of the Hermes low-power demonstration reactor.

An accident at the Urals Electrochemical Combine (UECC) at Novouralsk in Russia’s Sverdlovsk Region has left one worker dead, according to the plant’s administration. A cylinder containing depleted uranium tails ruptured after a pressurisation failure at the the UECC uranium enrichment facility (part of Rosatom).

A new method to extract molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) from low-enriched uranium targets, developed by researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), could significantly reduce the radioactive waste produced during the production of the isotope. Mo-99 is the precursor for medical radioisotope technetium-99m (Tc-99m) used in more than 85% of all nuclear medicine diagnostic examinations.
