US nuclear fuel developer Lightbridge Corporation has completed work in collaboration with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) to support the development of Lightbridge Fuel. The work was carried out under the US Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN) voucher programme.

US nuclear fuel developer Lightbridge Corporation has announced that it has entered into landmark agreements with Idaho National Laboratory (INL), in collaboration with the US Department of Energy (DOE), to support the development of Lightbridge Fuel. The framework agreements comprise an “umbrella” Strategic Partnership Project Agreement (SPP) and an “umbrella” Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), each with Battelle Energy Alliance, (BEA), DOE’s operating contractor for INL, with an initial duration of seven years.

Argentina is preparing to refurbish Atucha I, the first nuclear power reactor in South America, so that it may generate power for a further 20 years. A framework to regulate the work has been agreed.

China's third-generation nuclear power technology, Hualong One (HPR 1000), with independent intellectual property rights successfully passed the European Utility Requirements (EUR) compliance assessment and obtained the EUR certification, China General Nuclear (CGN) announced.

China General Nuclear's (CGN's) Hualong One (HPR1000) reactor design has been formally certified as compliant by the European Utility Requirements (EUR) organisation - a technical advisory group for European utilities on nuclear power plants. CGN said EUR's assessment shows the design has a high degree of compliance with its criteria and meets the latest European nuclear power requirements.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec) on 1 August announced that its operating and maintenance subsidiary, Nawah Energy Company (Nawah) had successfully started up unit 1 of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, located in the Al Dhafrah Region of Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved the transfer of the licence for Crystal River 3 from Duke Energy Florida to Accelerated Decommissioning Partners LLC subsidiary ADP CR3. The transfer will enable ADP CR3 to carry out active decommissioning of the former nuclear power plant.

France's EDF said today it will exercise an option to sell its 49.99% stake in Constellation Energy Nuclear Group (CENG), its joint venture with US utility Exelon. CENG owns five nuclear power reactors at three sites in the USA.
