The dome of the inner containment structure has been hoisted into place on top of the inner containment walls at unit 8 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant in China's Jiangsu province.

The lower part of the inner containment building's dome has a diameter of 44 metres at its base and is just over 12 metres high. The upper dome part will be lifted and welded into position in a separate operation.

France and China agreed to renew their partnership in nuclear energy during the recent state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to China. Construction of unit 8 at the Tianwan nuclear power plant in China's Jiangsu province officially got under way on 25 February with the pouring of first concrete for the reactor's nuclear island. The unit is one of four VVER-1200 reactors to be supplied by Russia to China under a 2018 agreement.
