According to Tass, specialists will replace 24 steam generator modules at the 560 -MW plant as part of a project to extend its service life until 2040. The unit began commercial operation in November 1981. Work will also include inspection of the reactor, turbine equipment and security systems.
In April 2020, Russia’s nuclear regulator Rostekhnadzor granted a licence for Beloyarsk-3 to operate until 2025. The BN-600 is the only fast breeder reactor that has operated for 40 years.
A second plant at the Beloyarsk site, the 820-MW BN-800 fast breeder reactor Beloyarsk-4, began commercial operation in October 2016.

Russia’s DV Efremov Scientific Research Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus (NIIEFA) has sent a cyclotron to Thailand manufactured for the Institute for Nuclear Research (NRI) in the Thai province of Nakhon Naiok. The equipment, dispatched between 15 and 17 July, for the isochronous cyclotron SS-30/15, comprised nine containers with a total cargo weight of 120 tons. Rusatom Helskea JSC and Kinetics Corporation Ltd are building a cyclotron-radiochemical complex in Thailand commissioned by NRI. The cyclotron SS-30/15 with proton energies up to 30 MeV is a key part of the complex intended for the development of nuclear medicine and scientific research. The shipment was made after the successful completion of the acceptance tests and confirmation of all required characteristics.

Russian nuclear fuel company Tvel, a subsidiary of Rosatom, has signed a contract with India’s Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) to supply enriched uranium fuel pellets for two boiling water reactor (BWR) units at the Tarapur nuclear plant.

Rusatom Automated Control Systems (Rasu), a subsidiary of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, will be the main designer and supplier of the instrumentation and control systems (I&C) package for units 3 and 4 of India’s Kudankulam NPP, Rosatom said on 16 December. In November 2016, general contractor Atomstroyexport (part of Rosatom) signed a contract with Rasu to deliver the I&C equipment, a statement said. In April 2014, Russia and India signed a general framework agreement for the construction of Kudankulam 3 and 4, the second phase of the Kudankulam NPP in Tamil Nadu state. In November 2016, Rosatom said its subsidiary, Atomenergomash, began production of major components for the project.

Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom will receive an additional RUB2.7bn ($42.3m) from the state budget in 2017 to contribute to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (Iter) project under construction in Cadarache France. Ria Novosti said RUB1.13bn will be given to Iter as a cash contribution, and RUB1.57bn will be in the form of manufactured equipment. The increase means Russia will keep its overall contribution to the Iter project at 9.09% of total contributions in 2017, according to a statement by Russia’s parliament. Seven parties contribute to Iter’s funding: Russia, the EU, the US, China, India, Japan and South Korea. According to Iter’s last available financial report, Russia contributed slightly more than RUB15bn in 2015, both in cash and in kind, equivalent to 9.97% of the total.
