State nuclear company Kazatomprom, the world’s largest producer and seller of natural uranium, said the shipment was of uranium it owns with the Inkai joint venture with Canadian uranium miner Cameco.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route was originally developed in 2018 to mitigate the risk should the usual primary route via St Petersburg in Russia be unavailable.
The alternative route was developed because the Port of St Petersburg was temporarily unavailable to some categories of nuclear material when the city was to host football matches as part of the 2018 World Cup.

US Georgia Power has announced that fuel load into the reactor core at unit 3 of the Vogtle NPP is underway, marking “a milestone toward start-up and commercial operation of the first new nuclear units to be built in the US in more than three decades”.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on 2 July that the recent detection of slightly elevated levels of radioisotopes in northern Europe is likely related to a nuclear reactor that is either operating or undergoing maintenance, when very low radioactive releases can occur. The geographical origin of the release has not yet been determined.
