US-based TerraPower has selected five suppliers to support its Natrium Reactor Demonstration Project in Kemmerer, Wyoming. TerraPower these award selections are integral to the development of the Natrium plant. “Upon completion, the Natrium plant will be a full commercial operating plant and will bring to market clean, reliable, stable baseload energy and flexible energy storage, as well as long-term jobs to energy producing communities.”

US-based TerraPower has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the UAE’s Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) on the sidelines of COP28 to explore opportunities for the commercialisation and global deployment of Terrapower’s Natrium technology. “Bringing advanced nuclear technologies to market is critical to meeting global decarbonisation targets,” said TerraPower President & CEO Chris Levesque. “TerraPower and ENEC are leading the way in deploying nuclear plants, and this agreement allows us to share our expertise and design experience, and explore the opportunity for deployment of Natrium reactors around the world including additional locations in the United States.”

A project led by BWXT Advanced Technologies LLC to assess the viability of deploying microreactors to supplement Wyoming's existing power generation resources is set to be one of the first recipients of matched funding under a state-appropriated programme. But TerraPower has put its plans to apply for a construction permit for a Natrium reactor in the state back by five months.
