Russia’s annual International Forum on Nuclear Energy, Atomexpo, which was recently held over two days in Sochi on the Black Sea coast set a record for the number of participating countries. Atomexpo-2024 organised by Rosatom, was held at the Sirius science & arts park in Sochi. The Sirius Federal Territory was established in 2020 has a special status and management system with an experimental legal regime. The forum attracted more than 4,500 people from 75 countries.

The second unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was put into commercial operation on 1 November. Together with the first unit the new nuclear power plant will provide about 40% of the country's electricity needs.

Almasadam Satkaliyev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy says "Rosatom has a certain advantage as supplier of the nuclear island" for a planned NPP. While the authorities continue to look for a contractor and supplier of equipment for construction of its planned NPP, they understand that Russia’s Rosatom has advantages in this area, he noted.

Despite the difficult economic situation and sanctions, Rosatom's exports will grow by about 15% by the end of the year compared with 2021, Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev said in an extensive interview with Izvestia. Countries where new projects are already underway or are beginning include China, Turkey, Egypt, Hungary, India, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

A high-ranking Egyptian delegation headed by the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt, Mohammed Shaker, paid a working visit to one of the largest machine-building enterprises in Russia, JSC Tyazhmash on 30 July. The delegation also included: the Chairman of the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) Amged El-Wakil; NPPA Vice President Mohammed Ramadan; the Chairman of the Nuclear and Radiation Control Department of Egypt, Sami Atalla; Rosatom’s First Deputy General Director for Nuclear Energy and President of JSC ASE, Alexander Lokshin; the Deputy Head of the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision, Alexey Ferapontov, Samara Region Governor Dmitry Azarov; the General Director of Tyazhmash JSC Andrey Trifonov, as well as project teams of the Rosatom engineering division and NPPA.

Russian scientists at the Ural Federal University (UFU) have created samples of clay bricks that are able to attenuate ionising radiation as much as possible - to a level that is safe for the human body, UFU said on 18 May. An article describing the technology was published in the journal Applied Radiation and Isotopes.

Alexey Likhachov, director general of Rosatom, congratulated his staff today on the 75th anniversary of Russia's nuclear industry. To emphasise how the corporation is looking to the future, Rosatom has announced its switch to a 'united brand' by using its Mobius strip logo for all of its subsidiaries.

Fuel loading has begun at unit 1 of the Belarus NPP, Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom said on 7 August. This followed the issuing of a permit by the Department of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Belarus Ministry for Emergency Situations (Gosatomnadzor). A total of 163 assemblies will be loaded before the end of August, after which the reactor will reach the minimum controllable power level (1% of total capacity) and relevant tests will be performed. After reliability and safety of the unit at its design parameters are verified, the next stage of the power start-up will begin and the reactor will be connected to the grid, Rosatom said.
