South Korean engineering firm Doosan Enerbility has signed a contract with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power to carry out the overall design of a used nuclear fuel dry storage system.

The licence issued for the construction and operation of a consolidated interim storage facility (CISF) for used nuclear fuel in Texas has been cancelled by a US appeals court. The court ruled that the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) does not have the authority to license a private storage facility away from nuclear reactors.

Orano USA has completed work to separate and pack the top third of the reactor vessel, with its embedded internal components, using its patented Optimized Segmentation process. The reactor vessel will be cut into three segments as the company carries out accelerated decommissioning of the plant.

US-based Orano Decommissioning Services (Orano DS) is implementing an innovative method for rapid reactor dismantling at unit 3 of the Crystal River NPP (CR3). The patented Optimised Segmentation process aims to reduce the volume of waste for disposal and the amount of segmentation work on the reactor structures. Orano says this has substantial benefits in overall execution schedule, dose, and cost.

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved the transfer of the licences for the Palisades nuclear power plant from Entergy Nuclear Operations Inc to Holtec International following the plant's retirement next year. Holtec plans to take control of the Michigan plant and begin its decommissioning with a month of its retirement.

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has for the first time accepted a single dry run inspection of multi-purpose canister (MPC) lid welding representing used fuel loading at multiple nuclear power plant sites. The welding dry run was conducted by Holtec International and Exelon Generation in support of Exelon's implementation of Holtec's dry cask storage systems at its Peach Bottom nuclear power plant. The systems are also planned for use at its Limerick, Ginna, Nine Mile Point and Calvert Cliffs plants.
