Czech power utility CEZ Group's Elektrárna Dukovany II (EDU II), a wholly owned subsidiary has received three final bids for the construction of a new unit at the Dukovany NPP. US-based Westinghouse, France’s EDF and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) submitted binding bids for Dukovany 5 and non-binding bids for the other three units. Westinghouse is proposing its AP1000, KHNP its APR1000 based in the APR1400 and EDF its EPR1200 (a smaller version of its standard EPR). These are all pressurised water reactors. Russia and China were excluded from the bidding in 2021.

The 67th annual IAEA General Conference has adopted resolutions related to nuclear and radiation safety, nuclear security, and strengthening the effectiveness and improving the efficiency of Agency safeguards. Strengthening the IAEA’s technical cooperation activities, as well as activities related to nuclear science, technology and applications were also adopted, among other resolutions. IAEA resolutions and decisions will guide the IAEA’s implementation of activities in the coming year.

Romanian nuclear utility Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica (SNN), and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) have signed an Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contract for construction of the Cernavoda Tritium Removal Facility (CTRF).

Following a day’s delay, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi final reached the Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP) on 15 June, accompanying the eighth rotation of the Support & Assistance Mission to Zaporizhia (ISAMZ) which has been permanently stationed at the plant since September 2022. Grossi has strengthened the mission replacing two inspectors with four – specialists from Austria, France, South Korea, and Morocco.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by Romanian nuclear utility Societatea Na?ionala Nuclearelectrica (SNN), US-based NuScale Power, Romanian companies E-INFRA and Nova Power & Gas, US-based Fluor Enterprises and South Korea’s Samsung C&T Corporation to collaborate in the deployment of NuScale VOYGR Power Plants in Central and Eastern Europe and in Romania.

US-based NuScale Power has joined the Romanian Atomic Forum (Romatom) as a supporting member to champion the association’s nuclear energy goals. Romania aims to be the first country in Europe to deploy a NuScale VOYGR small modular reactor (SMR) power plant. John Hopkins, NuScale President & CEO, said NuScale was “committed to advancing the secure deployment of SMRs globally”.
