Russia’s DV Efremov Scientific Research Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus (NIIEFA) has sent a cyclotron to Thailand manufactured for the Institute for Nuclear Research (NRI) in the Thai province of Nakhon Naiok. The equipment, dispatched between 15 and 17 July, for the isochronous cyclotron SS-30/15, comprised nine containers with a total cargo weight of 120 tons. Rusatom Helskea JSC and Kinetics Corporation Ltd are building a cyclotron-radiochemical complex in Thailand commissioned by NRI. The cyclotron SS-30/15 with proton energies up to 30 MeV is a key part of the complex intended for the development of nuclear medicine and scientific research. The shipment was made after the successful completion of the acceptance tests and confirmation of all required characteristics.

The complex, with a total area of ??more than 6000 square metres  will make it possible to carry out research to create new radionuclides for medicine, to study changes in the properties of materials (in particular, semiconductors) under the influence of proton, deuteron and neutron beams, radiation corrosion of materials, radiation resistance of electronic equipment and the structure of neutron-redundant nuclei, as well as conduct neutron activation analysis.

NIIEFA (part of Rosatom) is the leading scientific, design and production centre for electrophysical installations and complexes for solving scientific and applied problems in the field of plasma physics, atomic and nuclear physics, elementary particle physics, healthcare, radiation and energy technologies, introscopy. Installations developed at the institute are operated in many scientific organizations and industrial enterprises in Russia, the CIS countries, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Egypt, India, China, Cuba, the USA, Finland, France, Japan, the DPRK and the Republic of Korea.

Rusatom Helskea (Rusatom Healthcare – also part of Rosatom) develops and produces equipment and radionuclide products for the needs of nuclear and radiological medicine, as well as the production of industrial equipment and solutions for sterilisation and processing of various products using ionising radiation based on electron and gamma ray systems.
