The routine repair and maintenance outage at unit 1 of Russia’s Kola nulcear power plant, a VVER 440 reactor, was completed after 56 days on 8 May, a week ahead of schedule.

All planned work has been completed efficiently...We will try to maintain the momentum in the future,” said the director of the Kola NPP, Vasily Omelchuk.

During the outage, the reactor, after being defuelled,was repaired and the state of the reactor vessel was monitored. No defects were detected in welded joints and the base metal. The main shut-off valves, steam generators and main circulation pumps were also serviced. Relay protection and automation devices were modernised and about 100km of new cable lines were laid.

The next stage of the 2020 repair campaign at Kola nuclear plant be the  repair of unit 3, scheduled to begin on 16 May. In total, the duration of repairs of all four power units of the Kola station in 2020 will be 246 days. All repair work is planned to be completed by early October.
