The board of Swedish power utility OKG has decided to extend the annual outage at unit 3 of the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant by three weeks.

With an extended outage period, OKG wants to take into account, among other things, the Public Health Authority's guidelines for the Coronavirus pandemic, and limit the number of people working at the facility simultaneously.

This year's outage at Oskarshamn 3 is longer than normal, as the Independent Hardened Cooling System (OBH) is to be installed in addition to the usual inspection and refuelling activiities.

In total, 800 additional people will be employed to undertake the work.

According to the previous schedule, the outage would have taken place between 22 August and 26 October. However, OKG has proposed to the Board that the work should begin earlier on 1 August.

Oskarshamn 3 is a 1450MW boiling water reactor.
