Russia’s Rostelecom will provide satellite communication channels for the world's first floating nuclear power plant (FNPP) the Akadmik Lomonosov, which docked at Pevek in Chukotka on 14 September.

The company entered into a state contract for the provision of telecommunications services until the end of 2022 and will lay 5km of optical fibre cables, the Chukotka news agency reported on 25 September.

The FNPP will receive satellite communications with guaranteed quality parameters and speed, unlimited access to the Internet, local and long distance communications.

“Dedicated channels and speed dial telephones will be organised for emergency contact with the governor of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, the department for civil defence and emergency situations of the okrug, the head of the city district of Pevek and the control centre of the Northern Electric Networks of Chukotenergo. Round-the-clock technical support is also provided,” the company said.
