VT Nuclear Services has secured two five-year contracts to support the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) in the licensing of new reactors in the UK.

VT Nuclear Services will provide support in the areas of safety and quality assurance management and radioactive waste and decommissioning. The work will help with the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process and the subsequent site-specific licensing process for nuclear new build.

Earlier in March, a consortium led by VT Nuclear Services (other members: Nukem Technologies GmbH and the Lithuanian Energy Institute) was awarded a EUR2.8m decommissioning contract at the Ignalina nuclear power plant in Lithuania. The contract includes preparatory engineering work to allow the safe and cost-effective decontamination and decommissioning of the redundant unit 1 reactor support equipment.

“These contracts demonstrate VT Nuclear Services exceptional intellectual, technical and engineering expertise needed to help deliver these complex projects” said John Chubb, managing director of VT Nuclear Services.
