Hydraulic tests have been carried out of the reactor pressure vessel for unit 2 of the Leningrad phase two (II) nuclear plant in Russia.

The Izhorskiye Zavody, part of OMZ group, carried out the tests on the VVER-1200 reactor, which confirmed that the base metal and welds of the reactor pressure vessel were "strong and tight".

Preparations are now underway for trial assembling of the reactor vessel with internals and upper unit cap, which is the final stage in its manufacture.

Meanwhile, Russia's ZiO-Podolsk has completed its supply of equipment to the Leningrad II nuclear power plant, with the delivery of a fourth reservoir for the steam generator for unit 2. ZiO-Podolsk has manufactured a total of four steam collectors, one for each of the steam generator, which it also manufactured. The steam generators are assembled on site.

Leningrad II is being built adjacent to the existing Leningrad nuclear site and comprises two 1200MWe AES-2006 design units, with two further units planned.

The commissioning date for Leningrad II-2 has now been set for November 2019 and fulfillment of commitments under the power delivery contract is set for February 2020.
