Canada’s Bruce Power and Canadian company Promation Nuclear Ltd on 2 November signed a CAD4m ($3.1m) agreement in support of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) Project.

As part of MCR’s Detube-Retube Programme, Promation will design and supply fuel channel mockups that are required to validate and test the tooling provided by various vendors. The MCR Detube-Retube Programme is responsible for the replacement of existing fuel channels, calandria tubes and associated components at the Bruce site. The fuel channel mockups are essential for the MCR Project as they provide tradespeople with the ability to understand reactor conditions they will face when deploying tooling during the project.

“The mockups will be integral to the success of the Major Component Replacement Programme, which will extend the operational life of the Bruce site until 2064,” said Jeff Phelps, Bruce Power’s Vice President, Major Projects.  

“Promation, supported closely by their partner Laveer Engineering, was selected based on their experience in mockup development,” Phelps added. Promation, founded in 1995 is a privately owned Canadian Corporation that designs and manufactures high-quality tooling, automation, and robotic systems.
