An engineering contract for the main control room of the Hinkley Point C EPR in the UK was awarded in October to a consortium of French companies Efinor and Clemessy by EDF Energy subsidiary EDF NNB Generation Company.

The €22m ($27m) contract was made public in late December. Efinor, based in La Hague,  specialises in metal processing. The contract focuses on the design and construction of the two control rooms, the driving simulator and the six annexes of the Hinkley Point C EPR units. It will involve four years of studies, four years of manufacturing and five years of onsite deployment.

Efinor is in charge of the design, installation, testing and commissioning of the "steel structures" and "frame layout" batches, while Clemessy will be responsible for the design, installation, testing, maintenance and commissioning of the electricity/control command work.

Efinor generates more than 30% of its turnover in nuclear power. The company built the control room and simulator for the Flamanville 3 EPR and the studies for the EPR control room at Taishan (China).   In October 2016 Efinor was selected along with Darchem Engineering (the UK division of Esterline Corporation’s Engineered Materials group) as the preferred bidder for the stainless steel pool liner package for Hinkley Point. Darchem and Efinor are undertaking this GBP100m ($137m) project as a joint venture called EDEL.
