Dominion Energy has completed its merger with Scana, the South Carolina utility that owns the VC Summer nuclear plant.

The acquisition expands Dominion Energy's presence in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

"The addition of SCANA makes geographic sense and aligns well with our core, regulated energy businesses," said Thomas F. Farrell, II, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Dominion. "These are well-run regulated operations that we expect will help improve Dominion Energy's risk profile and growth outlook."

Dominion made an offer for Scana in January 2018. The merger takes Dominion's installed generation capacity to 31GW, expands its natural gas pipeline network to 106,000 miles, and its electric transmission and distribution lines 93,600 miles.

Scana will become part of a new division of Dominion, the Southeast Energy Group, led by Dominion Energy's current chief information officer, Rodney Blevins.

Daniel G. Stoddard, the senior vice president and chief nuclear officer at Dominion Energy, will also take on the role of chief nuclear officer-Southeast Energy Group, overseeing the single-unit VC Summer nuclear plant as well as six operating reactors in Virginia and Connecticut.

George A. Lippard has been named site vice president at the V.C. Summer Power Station, and will report to Stoddard.

Dominion also announced that Scana CEO Jimmy Addison would serve in an advisory role to Blevins until he retires on 1 February 2019.
